State Senator Paul Doyle Demands That Promised State Funding Be Restored for Crumbling Foundation Testing

State Housing Department redirected $750K promised for foundation testing to other state programs

State Senator Paul Doyle (D-Wethersfield), co-chair of the legislative Judiciary Committee, criticized the state Department of Housing and the Malloy administration for diverting critical funding for testing of crumbling foundations of homes and condominiums in eastern Connecticut.

More than $750,000 in Community Block Development Grants promised for such testing is now being redirected to other state programs.

Crumbling foundations are affecting homeowners in more than thirty-five eastern and central Connecticut towns. In many cases, the cost of repairing the foundations exceeds the value of the affected home.

“This is a betrayal to homeowners who are trying document the damage caused to their residences by crumbling foundations,” Sen. Doyle said. “Many of these homeowners have invested their life savings in these affected homes and they are faced with losing everything.

“As we try to work toward a just and equitable solution, this misguided budget decision will have devastating consequences for these homeowners, the state and this region,” Sen. Doyle said. “I call upon our legislative leaders and the administration to reverse this misguided decision and I will continue to help these innocent homeowners by providing the assistance they need in this crisis.”
