Gomes Announces the U.S. Dept. of Labor to Help Bridgeport Health Care Center Workers
BRIDGEPORT, CT—Today, Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) announced that the United States Department of Labor (US DOL) will be at the downtown Bridgeport library on April 27th and 28th to meet with Bridgeport Health Care Center, Inc. (BHCC) employees who are experiencing problems with their BHCC sponsored health or retirement plans.
The US DOL’s Wage and Workplace Standards Division is currently moving forward in both the state and federal investigations of possible violations at BHCC. Any current or former employees of BHCC that have any issues with their health or retirement plans are encouraged to attend the US DOL sessions.
Senator Gomes has been working closely with U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, the US DOL, and the Connecticut Department of Labor to bring justice for BHCC employees that having issues with their promised benefits.
“These people work so hard taking care of those that can no longer care for themselves,” said Senator Gomes. “They deserve the pensions that they contributed to for years and the health benefits they were promised. I have heard too many heartbreaking stories of people missing $10,000, $20,000, and even $50,000 in pension payments. This is just wrong. I hope any Bridgeport Health Care Center worker that was done wrong comes down to the library and speaks with the Department of Labor.”
Five people from the US DOL Employee Benefits Security Administration will be in Bridgeport to meet with BHCC employees at the 3rd Floor Community Room of the Burroughs—Saden library at 925 Broad Street. US DOL representatives will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 27th and April 28th.
BHCC employees are encouraged to bring in any papers they have that may assist the US DOL in their investigation, such as pay stubs, medical bills and correspondence (letters, emails, notices, etc.) with BHCC, insurers, service providers or claims administrators regarding the health or retirement plans. US DOL staff either will copy this material onsite or will make the copies in their office and return the documents to individuals via U.S. mail.
